Talent Scout Courses


The purpose of the Talent Scout Course is to help youth scouts learn the process of identification, examination and monitoring of potential (top) talented players.

Candidates will acquire or further develop the competencies (knowledge, skills, attitude) and personal traits necessary to work as a Talent Scout


Goals

To help youth scouts learn the process of identification, examination and monitoring of potential (top) talented players.


Outcome

On successful completion of the course, candidates will receive the U.S. Soccer Talent Scout License.


Eligibility

Holds a U.S. Soccer B License for 12 months.


Admission Criteria

In order to be considered for the U.S. Soccer Talent Scout course, applicants must meet the following pre-requisites:

  • Currently scouting within a youth 11 vs. 11 environment (U13 through U21) in a U.S. based program (applicants that have access to a youth scouting internship in a 11 vs. 11 environment will also be considered)
  • A signed letter from club leadership to confirm position, roles, and responsibility.

Application Process

Applications will be reviewed on the following criteria:

  • Scouting and Talent ID Experience
  • Coaching Experience
  • Playing Experience
  • Education

Learning Environment

Talent ID holistic Structure and Processes.

  • Strategy & Planning
  • Common examination structure
  • Challenges and constraints
  • Scouting process and procedures (blueprint)

Balance of practical and theoretical (in-person versus virtual, with mentoring, live observations (game/training), etc.)


Assessment Criteria

Students are assessed on the four main tasks:

  • Examining players
  • Monitoring and reporting players
  • Building and managing a scouting network
  • Self development

Course Experience

Three (3) months – 2-in-person meetings, plus:

  • Virtual meetings
  • Independent learning and development periods
  • One-on-one meetings with mentor/educator
  • Individuals assignments

FAQ

When is the talent scout course offered?

  • The Talent Scout Course is offered in the Fall and Spring. Interested candidates will submit applications via the Learning Center.

Who is the Talent Scout Course targeted at?

  • The course is designed for candidates in the following roles – Talent Scout, Head/Director of Scouting, Head/Director of Talent ID, Similar roles within talent scouting network.
