Steve Beckmann Remembered

PA West Soccer is sad to share the passing of Steve Beckmann.  Mr. Beckmann most recently served the association as the VP-Adult.  A life-long soccer player, Mr. Beckmann was involved in both the adult and youth game.  Many knew him from Pittsburgh Soccer and Sport, the store he and his wife operated in Squirrel Hill.

Mr. Beckmann was originally named the Amateur Commissioner on the Pennsylvania West Youth Soccer Association Board to oversee the adult game in 1989.  He was named to the position by then-President June Stroup after the West Penn Soccer leadership decided to retire and hand over the adult game to the youth association.  In 1995 the position of VP-Amateur (Adult) was created and Mr. Beckmann held the position until 2006.

In addition to serving as VP-Adult, he was commissioner of the various adults leagues and served various capacities with Pittsburgh Dynamo when his sons were youth players.  He also organized bus trips to men’s and women’s World Cup games when the US hosted those competitions in the 90’s.

Mr. Beckmann was also a member of the Moon Over-40 team that won the USASA National Championship in 1998.

Mr. Beckmann spent 17 years on the Board of Directors/Executive Board of the state association.  He will be remembered for his many contributions to the game.
