The following is a message from USYS League Manager, Marc Franklin:
Given heightened travel concerns, shelter-in-place orders, and US Youth Soccer’s suspension of activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic through May 15, and with the health of our soccer community in mind, the spring 2020 US Youth Soccer Great Lakes Conference season for boys and girls has been cancelled. Any Spring 2020 Great Lakes Conference matches currently scheduled will not be played.
As we stated in our previous memo that was posted on April 6, if we discovered today that the return-to-play date had been moved back to May 15 or beyond, we would have no option but to cancel the spring season for the Great Lakes Conference. On May 15, we would be sitting at 1,378 games postponed (of 1,658 games in the season), making it infeasible to complete the season.
Standings for each gender/age group will not be considered for the current season. All 13U divisions will be rolled forward to the Fall 2020 season. All 14U through 18U divisions will be rolled forward to the Spring 2021 season. Club vs. Club Division clubs will need to reapply for Club vs. Club competition at the time of applications for the Spring 2021 season.
Teams will receive a partial refund of the $550 league fee once all operations costs have been determined. The refund total is currently being determined, but once finalized, will be given to each State Association.
We’d like to thank all of our Great Lakes Conference families, staff and volunteers, for your ongoing support of the Great Lakes Conference as we manage our programming given the current crisis. The safety and security of our soccer community is, and always will be, our highest priority!
Please note, this memo applies to the Great Lakes Conference only. Further details regarding the impact of coronavirus on other Conferences will continue to be shared via official USYS communication channels, and always check back on the conference homepage for updates.
