2023 USYS Eastern Regional Championships Recap

It was an action-packed week in Loudoun County, Virginia with multiple teams in attendance, fighting in 16 different age groups for a chance to be crowned USYS Regional Champions and advance to the National Championship Series in Orlando, Florida.

PA West had a strong showing with 12 teams that earned their way into the Regional Championships.

Beadling had two teams playing on the field this past week. The U12 Beadling South Red boys went 2-1 in pool play and finished second in their group but didn’t advance due to goal differential. The U15 E64 boys finished second in their group, making an appearance in the semi-finals bracket before falling to Eastern PA team Lower Marion.

SCS United had three teams representing at regionals. The U13 boys finished with one draw and two losses in tough pool play action. The U14 SCS boys went undefeated in pool play, allowing two goals and scoring twelve. The U12 girls finished second in their group with a 2-1 record before clinching a semi-finals spot, where they would defeat Syracuse Development Academy in a hard-fought, 3-2 victory. The girls battled in the final and finished as regional finalists.

FC814 Energy U15 girls had a strong showing in Virginia. The team finished second in pool play with a 2-1-0 record and 3 goal differential and solidified themselves in a quarterfinal position, where they would defeat Princeton Soccer Academy 3-1 and ultimately falling in the semi-finals to Eastern PA’s Keystone FC.

Century Steel and 2007 Gold teams were also in attendance, as the U16 Gold boys finished 1-2 in a competitive group. The 17U Steel girls went 2-1 in pool play and finished with 5 goal differential heading into the elimination rounds. The girls would battle but ultimately would finish their tournament after a 2-1 loss to Force FC in the quarter-final rounds.

Arsenal FC of Pittsburgh two teams in attendance battled, with the U17 boys making a push to the quarterfinal stages after finishing second in their pool. Arsenal would bow out in the quarterfinal stages after a tough 1-0 loss to New York East team Dix Hills. The U19 boys would go 1-1-1 record but didn’t advance to the knockout rounds.

BVB International Academy’s two teams went combined 5-1 in pool play between the U13 girls and U18 boys. The U13 girls went undefeated in pool play at 3-0, while the U18 boys would tie for second in their group and be forced to a penalty shootout to decide their fate, where they would fall short to New England Surf 5-4 in the shootout. However, the U13 girls would win their quarterfinals and semi-finals matches 2-0 before coming up short to Keystone FC in the championship match, finishing as regional finalists.
