Tournament Format

The format of the PA West Soccer State Cup features seeded round-robin play in the first round with single-elimination play for the semi-finals and finals. The round-robin portion of the tournament must be played using groups of four teams in each age group, unless there are less than four entries. In age groups with total entries not divisible by four, challenge games will be played to determine participants in each group after the seeded teams are placed in their groups. The semi-final and final rounds will be a standard single elimination tournament played until there is one final team in each age group identified to represent PA West Soccer as the State Champion at the Region I Championships.

Due to the number of entrants, some age groups will use a single group of four requiring only a final round following the completion of round-robin play. Age groups with less than four entries will play either round-robin (if three teams) or two-game total goal series (if two teams) to determine its state champion.

Seeding: The teams finishing first, second and third during the previous year's tournament be seeded in order of finish provided the team has continuity of roster with the previous year’s roster. The champion will be the Number One seed, the finalist the Number Two seed, and the team determined to be the third place team will be the Number Three seed.  Third place will be awarded to the team losing in the semi-finals to the eventual champion.

All other teams (U13 and older) will be blind drawn into a second round group or first round game depending upon the number of entries in the age group and the number of groups needed per tournament rules.

The U12 age group shall be seeded based on their regular season record; the top four teams shall be seeded in corresponding order and all other teams will be blind drawn into a second round group or first round game depending upon the number of entries in the age group and the number of groups required per the tournament rules.
