It's Your Team Name It - The Winning Entry Is!
After a lengthy search...it's time to make ready for battle...the final choice is Fort Pitt FC Regiment. The winning entry, submitted by Adam and Andre Ennis of Bradford Woods, edges West Penn United by one vote in the online vote.
The name salutes the former British fort that stood in what is now Point State Park and was used as a base from which Western PA was settled. A regiment led by General Forbes ousted the French from Ft. Duquesne prior to the construction of Ft. Pitt and the fort's redoubt, now known as the Ft. Pitt Blockhouse, celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2014.
Over 103 potential names were submitted during that phase of the process. The PA West Soccer Executive Board narrowed the selections to three through a ranking process to set the stage for the online vote.
“We’re grateful to all the members of the soccer community who submitted suggestions and participated in the online vote,” said PA West Soccer President Natalie Schwoeble. “It’s their team and we felt strongly they should participate in the process of naming the team.”
